Dreaming up your team building events for 2020? Here are 5 reasons why Cattaro Hotel may be the perfect fit…

1. Planning Your Team Building Event is a Shared Effort.

No one knows your company or employees more than you do. As such, the majority of our team building clients get in touch with a vision of the type of events they have in mind, the theme or other ideas. No matter how far along you’ve gotten in the planning process, our team is here to see it through all the way. Let us know what you have in mind, and we’ll take care of all of the on-the-ground coordination necessary to make it happen.

Of course the same applies if you haven’t come up with a theme. We can help you from ideation through execution!

2. Sleeping Accommodations Are on Site.

If you’re looking for a centrally-located, convenient package, hosting your next team building event at Cattaro Hotel will be a great fit. After a long day of activities, your team members will only be steps away from their respective hotel rooms and suites. The same applies for sightseeing and shopping for souvenirs- no one has to wander beyond Old Town Kotor’s walls to take in the full experience.

“The Gulf of Kotor is one of the most remarkable natural phenomena in Europe, the climax of the whole coast, and the most awe-inspiring entrance to Montenegro. Whether you enter it by sea or by one of the two main land routes the sight of it will last a lifetime.” – J.A. Cuddon

3. We Have Multiple Venues.

We have multiple venues to offer, including meeting rooms inside our hotel, Restaurant Citadel on the fortress walls (seasonal, weather-permitting) and Snack Bar AS on the city’s main square, The Square of Arms. We can also cater your event thanks to our incredible on-site gourmet team.

“The part of the Adriatic Coast belonging to Montenegro is the purest part of the Mediterranean.” – Jacques Cousteau

4. We’re Surrounded By Natural Beauty.

Take your team outdoors to make the climb up to St. John Fortress snaking up above Old Town Kotor, organize a team building event on the sea or add adrenaline to the mix with nearby canyoning or zip line adventures.

“The most beautiful contact between the earth and sea took place at the Montenegrin littoral.” – Lord Byron

5. Kotor Is a Special Place for Creating Lasting Memories.

What could be a better backdrop for motivation, inspiration and bonding than such an old and beautiful city, the site of countless historic events? Once-in-a-lifetime experiences deserve a once-in-a-lifetime setting.

We’ve hosted successful team building events large and small, for boutique firms and large corporations alike. Find out for yourself why companies including Boston Consulting Group and Volkswagen have put their team building missions in our hands. What are your plans for ringing in the new year? We highly recommend celebrating the arrival of 2020 right here in Kotor, Montenegro. Whether by day or by night, our city has plenty to offer!

Daytime Plans

Spend the day on a walking tour of the city to learn the history, myths and legends of the beautiful palaces and buildings that line our city streets. There’s so much to learn and a lot of great material to photograph as well.

Getting hungry? Stop by our AS Snack Bar for light bites with anything from beer to pomegranate juice… the options are plenty. We’re sharing the festive spirit in this Cattaro Hotel pub as well with a beautiful Christmas tree and sparkling lights.

Finally, be sure to take a stroll alongside the water of the Bay of Kotor. It’s a beautiful and inspiring place, surrounded by mountains which reminds many people of a combination of the fjords and Lake Como. This is something you definitely won’t want to miss.

The New Year’s Eve Party

Cattaro Hotel guests have the privilege of joining some of the most desirable views of Kotor’s New Year’s Eve activities. Why? The city’s big official party takes place right on the main square, The Square of Arms, which is the same square all of our properties surround- our hotel, Napoleon’s Theatre, Restaurant Citadel and AS Snack Bar. Presented by the Tourism Organization of Kotor, join us on Tuesday, December 31st and Wednesday, January 1st for “Rock New Year 2020 Kotor”.

The December 31st lineup will feature the legendary Serbian rock band, Partibrejkers, Slovenian band Lačni Franz and the Montenegrin band, VIS Tetra, which features members from our capital city of Podgorica. The January 1st lineup will feature the Serbian rockstar, Bajaga, Croatin punk rock band Hladno Pivo and the local Montenegrin rock band, Light Under The Black Mountain, which features members from Kotor and Herceg Novi.

Staying at Cattaro Hotel

Upon entering the lobby of our historic boutique hotel, you’ll notice just how much we’re in the holiday spirit! If you’re new to the traditions and history of the Balkans and our country, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to know we’re home to one extra-long holiday season. Thanks to the mix of religions in our country, our holiday decor remains up well after December 25th in preparation for three more holidays: New Year’s Eve on December 31st, Orthodox Christmas on January 7th and Orthodox New Year on January 14th. We invite you to share the holiday energy with other guests and hotel staff.

Tip: Request a room that faces the main square to secure extra special views of all of the New Year’s Eve activities!

How long have you worked with Cattaro Hotel?

I’ve been working with Cattaro since February 2016.

Through your eyes, what makes Cattaro Hotel such a special place to stay?

The history of the building in which the hotel is located, the entire story of Napoleon’s Theater, and Providence Palace and Tower all equate to a special level of praise that cannot be said of many hotels in the world. The building itself is on the UNESCO list of cultural heritage sites. Of course, that honor focuses on the preservation of its identity and appearance to remain the same as when it was created.

The hotel’s location on the main square, Square of Arms, is also something special. It’s located in the heart of the city, and at the same time, it offers peace and privacy.

If a visitor only had time to see one place on their trip to Kotor, where would you recommend they go?

There are so many places to see in Kotor, and even more interesting stories to hear. Some of the stories are in the realm of legends, and some are true occurrences. They all add up to one whole, in which Kotor leaves visitors breathless. If I had to choose, I’d single out the Fortress of San Giovanni in Kotor and the island of Our Lady of the Rocks in Perast.

What kind of services and experiences do you offer that most people do not yet know about?

Very few people know that on the Cattaro Hotel terrace, which has the capacity of only sixteen guests, they may enjoy our fine dining restaurant. Gastronomic enjoyment, total privacy, five-star service, and located in the center of the city on the main square. That is something we must work on, from a marketing standpoint.

Do you have any upcoming news for 2020 to share?

We’re currently working on preparing new offers. First and foremost, we want to offer our guests the daily ability to enjoy tastings of Montenegrin cuisine and Montenegrin wines at Restaurant Citadela (part of Cattaro Hotel), guided by our chef and sommelier. Also, this year we’ve only just opened the door, but for next season, we will offer interested guests the ability to visit Škurda Canyon (only 300m from the hotel), presenting what is still an undiscovered pearl in our surroundings.

It will expand our offerings, and Kotor and Cattaro Hotel will gain a new dimension of tourism. Alongside our cultural offerings, we will offer guests adrenaline experiences too.

Note: Cattaro Hotel is the recipient of two new awards- 9.2 Excellent ratings from Kayak UK culminating in Best Hotel 2019 and Best Luxury Hotel 2019!

Ready to experience Cattaro Hotel? Let us host you for your next vacation or event. From destination weddings and family holidays, to corporate events and history-centric travel excursions, we’re thrilled to meet your needs. We’ll offer a special experience – custom-tailored just for you.

More and more people are traveling more frequently than ever- whether for business-related trips, extended journeys or vacations for the holidays. At the same time, we’re busier than ever, working longer days thanks to factors including smartphones, tablets and email. Therefore, on any given trip, chances are you only have a few days to spend in a single destination… but how can you make the best of it? Well, tourists who visit us here at Historic Boutique Hotel Cattaro stay for an average of two days; if you plan to spend 48 hours in Kotor- we have all the information you need.

Morning One: History, Hiking and Cultural Immersion

First things first, begin your day exploring the historic Old Town of Kotor. With roots stretching back to 5th-century BC, the UNESCO-protected heritage site offers much to uncover. Roam on your own or take a guided tour to leave with intriguing facts about the city’s founders, the various cultures that have called this city home, secrets of the wealthy families who prospered here over the centuries and more. Save some energy for a trek 1350+ steps (an elevation of 1200 feet) up to St. John Fortress, also known as the Castle of San Giovanni. The vertical hike is home to numerous nooks and crannies to explore, as well as a wonderful solution for combining exercise and sightseeing- certainly take your camera. You’ll be privy to a multitude of spectacular views of Old Town Kotor, The Bay of Kotor (part of the Adriatic Sea) and other nearby locales including the small seaside towns of Muo and Prčanj.

Evening One: Eat Like a Local

When dinner time rolls around, opt for lunch with a view-visit Restaurant Citadel at Cattaro Hotel. Perched atop the city’s walls, the eatery offers local cuisine and international favorites along with views inside and outside of Old Town Kotor. Then head to Pub AS for a nightcap with travelers and locals.

Morning Two: Breakfast, the Bay and Afternoon Tea

Have breakfast on the iconic balcony of Cattaro Hotel, overlooking the Square of Arms just within the city’s old walls. Reserved for hotel guests only, you’ll enjoy a rare perspective to start the day right.

Next, take a speedboat to explore the Bay of Kotor, including stops at places like the village of Perast and Risan to explore a beautiful fishing village and Roman mosaics. Also, make a stop at Our Lady of the Rocks to visit one of the most picture-perfect travel spots in Montenegro, a church in the middle of the bay.

Did you know Kotor has both Roman and Venetian roots? In fact, locals in Kotor and the surrounding area of Boka speak a particular dialect of the Montenegrin language that features an Italian infusion. For example, the word for plate in Italian is piatto and the local word for plate is pjato.

Finally, in the afternoon, return to Cattaro Hotel for classic afternoon tea

Evening Two: Yachts and Entertainment

Find out why Porto Montenegro has become one of the most talked-about destinations of Europe. Take a short drive over to the city of Tivat for world-class designer shopping, exciting bar scenes, family-friendly activities, delicious dining, arts and cultural events and more.

Summer may be over as far as our calendars are concerned, but the truth is that summer has not yet left the beautiful seaside destinations, our nation’s capital (Podgorica) and many other great places to visit in Montenegro. In contrast to the buzzing, busy streets and beaches of August, September is a tranquil time. School has started, the majority of travelers have returned home and there are considerably less concerts and social events on the calendar. This makes September the perfect time to have your “summer” holiday in Montenegro and a number of in-the-know tourists and savvy locals would agree.

Our waters are still perfectly warm enough to swim any time of day and the temperatures still accommodate excellent beach days. For example, this week we’re enjoying temperatures ranging in the 30° C to high 20’s range.

Sightseeing in Boka and Beyond

If you’ve never visited Kotor before or even if you have and still have places to see, September is the ideal time to see all of your desired destinations. You’ll enjoy more intimate settings with smaller to no crowds at such places as the Roman Mosaics in nearby Risan, Our Lady of the Rocks in Perast in the middle of the bay, the 1,000-step hike to Castle of San Giovanni above Kotor’s Old Town and the famous Blue Cave at Luštica Peninsula. Tell us your wishes and we can make all of the arrangements. In fact, we offer a special speedboat tour including a few of the previously mentioned destinations.

historic-boutique-hotel-cattaro-tours-speed-boat-big

Since it’s so fast to get around the roads in September, it’s also a great time to set up a base here in Kotor and then go out for day trips to other places to explore. Boka Bay is spectacular but it’s not the only exciting place to see while you’re here. Stay within our medieval walls and head out to a new destination each day. The beautiful capital of Podgorica has exciting restaurants, cafes, art galleries and museums to explore, as well as the Plantaže Vineyard (book your wine tour today), waterfalls, rivers and the nature-filled Gorica Park.

Wine tours - Cattaro tour

For seeing more of the sea, follow our country’s coastline to discover one stunning beach after another, each unique in its own way. There’s Budva with a younger Old Town of its own, St. Stefan with crystal clear waters, fine sand beaches and the iconic islet of the same name. There’s also Bar with historic destinations, a marina, great nightlife and one of the world’s oldest olive trees, Stara Maslina (over 2,000 years old). You can continue on to Ada Bojana for kitesurfing, horseback riding on the beach, windsurfing and spectacular seafood in a bohemian atmosphere or visit the other side of the coast to walk Herceg Novi’s stone streets and climb the Forte Mare Fortress, enjoy the beaches, take in a cultural event and more.

Your Stay at Cattaro Hotel

If you plan to make Cattaro Hotel the base for your stay, you’ll be enjoying the pleasure of staying in a piece of history. We’re proud to be a member of Historic Hotels of Europe, a highly-regarded association of hotels in castles, monasteries, palaces and more. You’ll be surrounded by history while receiving all of the comforts of any modern hotel experience, including Wi-Fi, use of our high-tech gym, multiple dining options. We have an in-house chef and culinary team and offer specific buffets, a restaurant on the Old Town’s citadel, a pub next door and even afternoon tea.

Kotor is home to so many summertime traditions; some festivities have taken place annually for hundreds of years, others for a few decades. In fact, one of these newer traditions happens to be one of the most highly-anticipated events of the year: International Art & Fashion Festival Kotor. Founded in 1998 by Vesna Mandić’s Fabrika Fashion Agency, the two-day event is a production by FFA and Municipality of Kotor. We’re fresh off the 22nd edition of the popular cultural event which took place here in Kotor’s Old Town on August 16 and 17.

The Fashion World Converges in Kotor

Past editions have presented collections of some of the most highly-revered couture labels in the world, including Dior and Vionnet. In fact, sometimes the famous designers come to town to present their works themselves, such as the show-stopping moments that were the Antonio Grimaldi and Jean Paul Gaultier fashion shows.

Fashion Festival Kotor has also featured lesser-known but extremely talented emerging designers who have gone on to achieve even higher levels of recognition and commercial success, such as the young American designer, LaQuan Smith, a favorite among celebrities including Rihanna, Beyoncé and countless top models.

A Fairy Tale Setting

The entertainment may be world-class but the festival’s backdrop accounts for half of the excitement. The International Art & Fashion Festival takes place in the square of St. Tryphon in front of the Cathedral of St. Tryphon, consecrated in 1166! The runway and stage are all constructed at the front of the cathedral with guests sitting all around, surrounded by Old Town restaurants, shops and homes. A quick glance up provides an eyeful of a picturesque mountainscape framing the city’s stone walls.

The Fashion Festival’s 22nd Edition

This summer’s featured designers were Jelena Roganović who presented her “Moda Nekad i Sad” (translates to “Fashion Then and Now”) and “Dress Code” collections and Filippo Laterza, an haute couture designer recently venturing into ready-to-wear who presented his “Heremophobia” collection with a theatrical fashion presentation.

The Montenegrin fashion designer, Jelena Roganović, showcased lovely designs inspired by the fashions of historical Montenegrin princesses and ladies of court. Guests were greeted with the sights of feminine hues, flowing fabrics and a glimpse into the country’s past.

Italian fashion designer, Filippo Laterza’s collection presented romantic and sensuous evening looks for men and women, with sheer fabrics, dramatic trains and more, available across a diverse selection of hem lengths. His collection included a performance directed by Rossano Giuppa with the soundtrack provided live by the band, Highway.

The artistic performances didn’t end there. The fashion festival also featured an emotional ballet performance by Sergei Polunin, Dejan Kolarov and Alexey Lyubimov.

You already know Cattaro Hotel is home to plenty of fun, history and excitement, but did you know it’s also the central base for some of the most important decision making in the region? It’s true! Every Wednesday, you can catch Rotary Club of Kotor members congregating for yet another week of organizing many of the city’s most important humanitarian and philanthropic activities and initiatives.

Rotary Club of Kotor: Members and Activities

Kotor’s Rotary Club members are locals in wonderfully diverse professions: photographers, hospitality managers, small business owners and more; in fact, our very own general manager of the Cattaro Hotel complex, Janko Racković, is one of the most active members in our local rotary club. The group meets every week to work on organizing activities for good causes. Some of the latest feel-good contributions from the group include donating two new personal sailboats to the Lahor sailing club and collecting money on Earth Day for the purpose of eco-education in Montenegrin schools- and a collaboration with the local nursery, Mondo Verde, to donate graviola plants.

Over the years, the impact of Rotary Club of Kotor impacts local physical and mental health institutions, schools, neighborhoods, the environment, social causes, professional development, the arts and culture and more. Dr. Ranka Krivokapić is president of the non-profit organization. Visit Rotary Club of Kotor’s website or Facebook page for more information.

Interested in joining or meeting any of the members? Swing by Cattaro Hotel on a Wednesday night shortly before their 8 pm gathering commences- they’ll be happy to speak with you. Rotary Club of Kotor membership is available by invitation only, but it’s also a great idea to express your interest if you’d like to get involved.

The Object of Rotary International

“The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

  • SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
  • THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;
  • FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.”

Boka Cruise 2019

One of Rotary Club of Kotor’s most recent charity events was the second annual edition of Boka Cruise, held on the second day of this month. The event was a runaway success, bringing together Rotary Club members and their family and friends for a gorgeous summertime cruise on Boka Bay (The Bay of Kotor).

The event raised funds in financial support of a local, disabled young man with medical costs and an inability to work. Attendees had an amazing time dressed in maritime-themed looks while supporting an incredible cause.
